Lily From ‘Modern Family’ Comes Out of the Closet With A Classic Quote From the Show

Happy Pride Month to everyone, but especially to the Tucker-Pritchett family.
As a child actor, Aubrey Frances Anderson-Emmons spent her formative years working on one of the most-watched television shows of its generation, becoming the youngest actor ever to win a Screen Actors Guild Award as a member of the Modern Family cast. The single-camera sitcom about diverse, interconnected families of well-to-do suburbanites challenged the medium’s stale approach to family dynamics, and as Anderson-Emmons played the Vietnamese-born adopted daughter of two white gay men, Lily was at the dead-center of Modern Family’s experiment in intersectionality.
Don't Miss
Now 18 years old and an independent pop-folk singer, Anderson-Emmons still keeps Modern Family close to her heart, and in a recent viral and prideful post, she returned to her roots as she declared that Lily was right about queerness being a family trait:
In her coming out reel, Anderson-Emmons quoted one of the more enduring clips from her time on Modern Family, which came during the Season Four episode “The Future Dunphys.” In the scene, Lily’s parents, Cam and Mitchell, attempted to educated their adopted daughter on the culture of her ancestors by bringing her to a Vietnamese restaurant. But after deciding that she likes cheeseburgers more than pho (a word which she was told not to say in public), Lily has an outburst and declares that her identity is defined by her fathers’ culture. Hence, she is not Vietnamese, but, “I’m gay! I’m gay!”
After 12 years of fans repeating her most hilarious lines from “The Future Dunphys” back at her in the street and in the comments section, Anderson-Emmons has embraced the most enduring meme from her Modern Family days in order to celebrate her bisexuality during this stressful Pride Month. Anderson Emmons wrote in the caption of her coming out video, “happy pride month to all and to all a goodnight hehehe.”
Understandably, Anderson-Emmons’ following and the Modern Family fandom are overjoyed about the news. “coming out to this audio is truly iconic,” one of the top comments under Anderson-Emmons' reel reads.
Another added, “Omgggg cam and mitch would be so happy.”
“QUEER ICON SINCE DAY ONE,” one more fan declared.
It’s just a shame that Lily’s in-universe family never got to celebrate such wonderful news with her — you just know that Pepper would have thrown Lily history’s greatest and most exhausting coming out party.
